Your unit, of course. There are a few things you can do to make it so your A/C doesn’t have to work so hard. You can install landscaping so that the unit is shaded from direct sunlight. Not too close, you don’t want to compromise the air intake, but simple shade can improve efficiency by up to 10%.

There are several ways to improve the ease of cooling your house. Turn your fans to the summer setting (turning counter-clockwise). Close the blinds on the hot sides of the house to keep the heat out. By doing this you will make much better use of the unit, and it will last longer.
