Go Fly A Kite In Kitty Hawk

Go Fly A Kite | OBX NC HVAC

Let’s go fly a kite… Up to the highest heights…

Mary Poppins did it, and you can, too. Fall on the Outer Banks is the best time to purchase, and fly a Kitty Hawk Kite; the cooler-but-still-warm temperatures make spending the day outdoors quite pleasant, and the wind from the encroaching Labrador Current creates conditions perfect for lifting your sails — and your spirits.

Never flown a kite before?

Well here’s your chance. Skip on down to Kitty Hawk; pick your favorite style: KHK Zombie Easy Flyer Kite, Parafoil 5 Kite, Star Wars Pocket Sled Kite, or Disney Frozen Olaf BreezyFlyers Kite; and find the perfect spot on the beach to fly the day away.

How to launch your new Kitty Hawk Kite:

Flying a kite will be much easier, and much more fun when done with a friend, so find a buddy, and get started. You’ll take the string, and he’ll take the kite and walk away at a distance of 20 yards, or 60 feet. This is important: The more string that gets unwound, the higher your kite will fly.

Even more important, though, is to ensure that you and your kite-flying partner are positioned in such a way to optimize the power of the wind — from your back to him, in a direct line.

With all that in mind, the time is now to LAUNCH your kite.

Look at you go! You’re flying a kite! Have you ever had so much fun?!

Release more string to send your kite flying higher in the air, and pull in more to bring it lower. Once you feel you’ve got a handle on controlling your new Kitty Hawk Kite, it’s time to have a little more fun. Challenge yourself:

  • See how quickly you can get the flying line to a 45-degree angle from your hand at maximum length.
  • See how fast you can get 150 meters (500 feet) of line out, from a hand launch.
  • Bring your kite right down into your hand without letting it touch the ground. Pull in quicker from time to time if needed, to keep it airborne.

Fall is the perfect time to plan a trip to the Outer Banks, and for flying kites!
